Did you know that Digby’s Leander Pink was created to enjoy whilst watching world class rowing? With the Olympic rowing events taking place pre-lunchtime in Paris, Digby has a few tips on how to turn your brunch into a fizzy pink feast.
Leander Pink is Digby’s non vintage rosé and the official English sparkling wine of Leander Club in Henley-on-Thames – the most decorated single sports club in history and home to many of our finest rowers.
Head Blender Trevor Clough spent two years coming up with a blend that would evoke summer days by the river, with hints of strawberry and cream, and that would match Leander’s very particular club colour: pink.
A portion of profits from each bottle of Leander Pink sold around the world goes back into the club, to train up the rowing stars of tomorrow. Leander’s athletes celebrate their wins at Henley Royal Regatta with bottles of Digby fizz and we’re hoping that we’ll all have many causes to toast triumphs in Paris over the next few weeks, too.
Here are Digby’s top brunching tips to help celebrate the rowing at this year’s Olympic Games, by pairing your food with our sporty pink fizz.
Simple, classic and very apt for these Parisian Olympic Games.
Sweet strawberry jam brings out the red berry notes in the wine, with the buttery croissant nodding to its creaminess.
What brunch is complete without fluffy American pancakes?
Team with that salty, sweet combination of crispy bacon and maple syrup – the touch of sweetness in the wine will come out a treat whilst cutting through with perfectly balanced acidity.
It is a special occasion, after all.
Poached eggs and smoked salmon atop toasted English muffins with a sneaky drizzle of Hollandaise sauce just begs for Leander Pink’s liveliness and full, velvety texture.
Leander Pink has a lovely depth to it, so try some warming baked tomato and eggs.
The ricotta will lift the palate of both the food and wine.
Well, the French may not have invented French toast but it’s still a morning winner… and an homage to the Olympic hosts.
For an extra level of sumptuousness, opt for Brioche, and soak in whisked eggs, milk and vanilla essence before frying in butter. Top with fresh berries, whipped cream and mint to highlight the wine’s fresh, fruity notes. Gentle raciness (like all our wines) will counter the food’s richness.
