Tasting Notes

Curiosities

Particulars

After aging for 10 years on lees, the acidity has really integrated into the wine and given it this wonderful structure and back bone. This long aging on the lees and on point has developed this wonderful vibrancy and complex flavours of lemon infused honey and creamy vanilla. This has evolved but retains a beautiful freshness that will ensure it has the legs to continue aging and evolving further.

Time has been our not-so-secret ingredient with this re-release. It has been aged in 3 different ways: extended lees aging, aging on point and maturation cork.

‘We intentionally kept aside one stillage of 500 bottles to see how English wine would age, how it would evolve, and this has been an interesting time capsule to keep revisiting over the years to see the evolution. This is not just remarkable for us as a producer but also for English Wine as a whole, to see how this wine evolves over time has been fascinating.’ Says Trevor.

Grapes

Blend: 65% Chardonnay / 18% Pinot Noir / 17% Pinot Meunier.

Disgorgement Dates: 22/12/ 2022.
The 2009 vintage was a good all-round year with little spring frost, perfect for flowering. Rains came when they needed too, but not too wet. The end of summer brought long, warm days which ripened the fruit beautifully with high sugars and balanced acids.

First launched in 2013, Digby’s maiden vintage was an immediate award winner, receiving gold from Decanter World Wine Awards in 2015 and ‘World Champion English Sparkling Trophy’ with the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships in 2014, proving an immediate hit with the critics and public alike. Now under the Library Release Label, the wine has evolved but the house’s racey, sophisticated style remains firmly in place. This is like a new lease in an old friend – bright and young but packed with a punch!

Drinking Window: 2025-2035.

An opening note of kefir blows off to portray lemon-infused honey. More air then brings immense creaminess that relaxes into caramel with a touch of vanilla. It is on the palate that the full splendor of the wine becomes apparent with sleekest poise, smoothest mousse and that wonderful honey- and caramel-inflected creaminess. This has evolved but so fresh and finishes with an exquisite hint of chalk. This is a sophisticated, rounded, but immensely fresh and concentrated wine that is perfect now but has the stuffing to continue evolving.
